#0214 – Treadle & Hook Kit, C&P 8 x 12 OLD style
The Hern Treadle kits were reproduced from original pieces. Patterns have been tested for the Chandler & Price presses and will generally drop in with only small cleaning and refinements of press and castings. Recognize that your press is unique – after near 75 years of production, and 50 plus years out of production – you press has been rebuilt and repaired a few times. There will be some minor differences press to press.
This kit includes: Treadle, Hook, and all Hardware to attach and use with your press. Your press may have the hinge pin already in place at the lower back; or it may only have holes in the frame to install the included 3/4″ rod with the kit. Pricing also includes reinforced packaging and shipping to your door!
Installation of the Hook — Generally the Hook opening faces the operator. Hang the hook on the eccentric and see that it fits down around the shaft without forcing the fit. Grind or file as necessary. Rotate the press by hand to confirm no external interference with the remainder of the frame. Grind on the Hook only as necessary. Once Hook is fitted and put through it’s paces – proceed with the mounting of the Treadle to press, and Treadle to Hook. Operation — move the press by hand with light pressure from the Treadle to get motion started. Build speed with Treadle after.
This treadle is a reproduction of the old style press designs. These presses are noted for their artistically curved design, & “S” spokes on the flywheel. Note two pictures of an Original treadle in a restored Old Style C&P 8×12. Pictures with the silver press are using a Hern Treadle kit.
