There’s lots of fun in this little package!

There’s lots of fun in this little package.  Arrived in a small crate a short few weeks after I mailed in my cannon purchase agreement, money order and letter describing what I wanted and where to ship it.  Inside was the prettiest little howitzer you’d ever want to see.  15 inches long with a 2 ¼ (approx.) bore.  When it arrived, I had already made a mock-up carriage out of Douglas fir (cheap wood) and used that as the work stand to do the barrel finishing.  I suggest you do the same.  Doug fir is a lot cheaper than the 2” X 12” oak I used for the finished carriage.  […]

My first cannon was the Hern Iron Works English Swivel

My first cannon was the Hern Iron Works, English Swivel gun purchased in about 2010.  I expected complications in the ordering process.  Instead, it was a simple transaction involving a signed and notarized cannon order agreement, a letter telling Hern what I wanted and a money order for the amount.  The folks at Hern made the business really easy.  It arrived in a little wooden crate about 30 days after I ordered it.  Had to help the UPS guy carry it to the porch (I don’t think he was expecting a package that size to be quite that heavy).  Upon opening the crate I found a pretty little barrel (rough iron) […]
